1) The movie opened to a weekend of $88.4 million, which was less than $2 million under what the first Harry Potter film opened for. At the time, this was the 3rd highest movie opening of all time behind Harry Potter 1 and Spider-Man.
2) The movie has grossed $878 million at the Worldwide box office (as of 2021).
3) This turned out to be the fourth highest-grossing film of 2002. Spider-man, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, and Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones all grossed more that year.
4) Legendary film critic, Roger Ebert, gave the movie 4/4 stars and ended his review by saying “What a glorious movie”.
5) The movie is rated 82% on the TOMATOMETER from Rotten Tomatoes based on 238 critical reviews. It also has an audience score of 80%, with over a million votes.

8) In an interview with the A.V Club, Frank Oz revealed that he was asked to direct the film. He ended up declining, saying that he had no interest and didn’t want to do another big project. As a result, Chris Columbus returned to direct his second Harry Potter movie.
9) This was the final movie of the series that was directed by Chris Columbus. He served as a producer on the next film, the Prisoner of Azkaban.
10) In an interview, Columbus revealed that this was his final Harry Potter movie because he wanted to spend more time with his family. He mentioned that he hadn’t seen them for dinner throughout the week in 2 and a half years since he started working on the first film.

11) According to IMDB, Hugh Grant was originally cast as Professor Gilderoy Lockhart but he had to drop out due to a scheduling conflict. As a result, Kenneth Branagh ended up getting the role.
12) In an interview with Empire, actor Eddie Redmayne revealed that he auditioned for the role of Tom Riddle in the film. Redmayne would not get the role but would later be cast as Newt Scamander in the Fantastic Beasts series.
13) IMDB says that Joseph Morgan also auditioned for the role of Tom Riddle but was unsuccessful. Morgan is best known for his role in The Vampire Diaries and the Originals.
14) IMDB says that actors Richard E. Grant and Bill Nighy were both almost cast as Lucius Malfoy. Instead, the role went to Jason Isaacs, who would play the character for the rest of the series. Isaacs actually originally auditioned for the role of Gilderoy Lockhart. Nighy would go on to be cast as Minister Rufus Scrimgeour in the Deathly Hallows part 1.
15) Richard Harris, who played Dumbledore, passed away a few weeks prior to the movie opening in theatres. As a result, he was replaced in the other movies in the series by Michael Gambon, starting with Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
