Tom Riddle thinks that Dumbledore is a doctor during the scene in the orphanage. Dumbledore would later reveal to Harry that he didn’t know at the time that the boy would go on to be the Darkest Wizard of all time.

1) According to Box Office Mojo, the film earned $77,835,727 domestically on opening weekend. This ended up being the second-worst opening out of the entire series, with the last being The Order of the Phoenix.
2) According to Box Office Mojo, this was the 3rd highest-grossing movie of 2009, making $301,959,197 that year. This was behind Avatar and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
3) According to Box Office Mojo, the movie has grossed $934,546,568 Worldwide (as of 2019).
4) The movie has an 83% rating on the TOMATOMETER on Rotten Tomatoes based on 276 critical reviews. It also has an audience score of 78% with over 1.5 million votes (as of 2019).
5) The film has a user rating of 7.6/10 on IMDB based on over 400,000 votes.
6) Legendary film critic Roger Ebert gave this film 3 stars out of 4 in his review. He notes that he “admired” the film and thinks that it opened and closed very well.
7) The movie was nominated for one Academy Award, which was for Best Cinematography. The movie did not end up winning the award. Still, this is the only Potter movie that ever received a nomination for Best Cinematography.

8) The movie was directed by David Yates, in what was his second movie of the series. He previous directed Order Of The Phoenix and also went on to direct both Deathly Hallows movies. Yates would also go on to direct the movies from the Fantastic Beasts series.
9) With this film, Yates became the 2nd director to direct two films in the Potter series. The other being Chris Columbus, who directed the first two.
10) In an interview, Yates revealed that Dutch painter, Rembrandt, was an inspiration behind some of the colors in the film.
11) According to IMDB, this movie was originally going to feature a lot more of Dumbledore’s memories of Voldemort. Yates ended up cutting out a lot of those in the final draft of the film.
Notes About The Casting
12) In an interview in 2006, Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) revealed that she was considering not returning for the final three movies. It was later revealed that Watson wanted to focus on her schoolwork. Watson ultimately agreed and returned as Hermione for the final movies.
13) According to IMDB, Christian Coulson wanted to return to play Tom Riddle but David Yates decided that he was too old. Coulson played the role of Riddle in the Chamber of Secrets.
14) IMDB says that Jamie Campbell Bower auditioned for the role of Tom Riddle for this movie. Instead, he was cast as Young Gellert Grindelwald in the Deathly Hallows: Part 1.
15) Actors Thomas James Longley, James Lee Hunt, and Andrew Clarke also auditioned for the role of Tom Riddle according to IMDB.
16) According to IMDB, 7,000 girls auditioned for the role of Lavender Brown. The role eventually went to Jessie Cave, who had been recommended by Emma Watson.

Other Tidbits About The Movie
19) Actor Robert Knox was stabbed to death in London after the film finished wrapping. Knox played the role of Marcus Belby, who was one of the guests at Professor Slughorn’s ‘Slug Club’ supper party. According to IMDB, several cast members attended Knox’s funeral, including Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint. Also, several cast members wore white wristbands to the premiere in order to pay tribute to Knox.
20) Maggie Smith (Professor McGonagall) had to undergo radiotherapy during filming to treat her breast cancer.
21) In an interview with the Daily Mail, Daniel Radcliffe is very critical of his performance in the movie, saying that he isn’t very good.
