Newt’s mother bred hippogriffs when he was younger, which helped inspire his love of magical creatures. Her name has not yet been revealed in the series.

Eddie Redmayne plays the role of New in the Fantastic Beasts movies. Like Newt, Eddie has revealed that he is a member of Hufflepuff House. He released a PSA video about why he is proud to be a Hufflepuff.

Eddie Redmayne auditioned for the role of Tom Riddle in the Chamber of Secrets. Eddie didn’t end up getting a callback after his audition. The role was given to Christian Coulson but things worked out pretty well for Eddie as he was cast as Newt years later. Seems like they made the right decision.

3) Newt Scamander’s birthday is February 24th, 1897. He shares a birthday with Steve Jobs, Floyd Mayweather, and Daniel Kaluuya.
4) Newt founded the Werewolf Register and Registry, which was a list of all the know werewolves that lived in Great Britain.
5) Newt implemented a Ban on Experimental Breeding in the Ministry of Magic.
