Some Additional Trivia About Padfoot
Here are some additional tidbits about Sirius that we couldn’t find a spot for on our quiz but found interesting.
1) Gary Oldman played the role of Sirius in the Harry Potter films but he almost didn’t get the job. According to IMDB, Christopher Columbus wanted Robson Green to play the role of Sirius. After Columbus was replaced as director for the third movie by Alfonso Cuarón, he brought in Oldman for the role. A fun fact is that Green was one-half of the singing duo, Robson & Jerome. His partner was Jerome Flynn, who you might recognize as the actor that plays Bronn in Game of Thrones.
2) Sirius’ name has a connection to Astronomy. ‘Sirius’ is the brightest star in the Canis Major constellation and it is better known as the “dog star”. With Sirius’ Animagus form being a dog, we can assume that JK Rowling took this name directly as inspiration for the character.
3) Sirius Black’s wand core has never been revealed. It was not mentioned in the books and it has not been mentioned by JK Rowling in interciews. The same goes for the wood of his wand, which has also never been specified.
