Lord Voldemort serves as the main villain in the Harry Potter series. He has many nicknames in the Wizarding world as many are afraid to say his name. These nicknames include “The Dark Lord”, “He Who Must Not Be Named”, and “You Know Who”. We have put together a Voldemort quiz for you to test your knowledge of the character. This includes 10 difficult trivia questions that will test your Wizarding knowledge. As a result, only hardcore Potter fans will be able to get a perfect score.

1) Voldemort’s full name is Tom Marvolo Riddle. Which of his family members does ‘Marvolo’ come from?

Marvolo was the name of Voldemort’s grandfather, Marvolo Gaunt. He also got the name Tom from his father, who was named Tom Riddle Sr. Marvolo Gaunt’s ring ends up becoming one of Voldemort’s Horcruxes.

2) Where did Voldemort work after leaving Hogwarts?

Tom Riddle worked at Borgin and Burkes in Knockturn Alley after he left Hogwarts. This was revealed in the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix book. Borgin and Burkes is the location where Draco Malfoy was able to help sneak Death Eater into Hogwarts, using the vanishing cabinet.

3) True Or False: Lord Voldemort was an animagus

This is false as Voldemort was NOT an animagus. Some people get confused by this because Nagini is a Horcrux but that doesn’t mean Voldemort is an animagus. An animagus is someone who can transform themselves into an animal at will. There is no evidence to support that Voldemort could do that.

4) Before acquiring the Elder Wand, what was the core of Voldemort’s wand made from?

Voldemort’s wand was made of a phoenix feather core. This is one of the rarest wand cores and they are very powerful but the hardest to tame. As a result, he shares the same wand core as Harry Potter, which is pretty fitting.

5) True Or False: Voldemort was a pureblood wizard

This is false as Voldemort was a half-blood wizard. This is because his mother, Merope, was a pure-blood witch and his father, Tom, was a muggle. Voldemort ended up murdering his father and also his grandparents. Merope died shortly after giving birth to Tom.

6) Which of the following names is not technically a Death Eater?

The answer is Fenrir Greyback who was a werewolf and not technically a Death Eater. He was aligned with Voldemort but did not have the dark mark. Fenrir was known to be extremely dangerous. Two of Greyback’s victims are Remus Lupin and Bill Weasley.

7) True Or False: Tom Riddle played for the Slytherin Quidditch team during his time at Hogwarts

This is false as there is no evidence in the books or from interviews with JK Rowling that Voldemort played Quidditch while at Hogwarts. This was a tricky one as some fans may have assumed that he played the same position as Harry Potter when at school. That is not the case though.

8) Which of these characters attended Hogwarts at the same time as Voldemort?

The answer is Hagrid as you may remember that he was framed by Tom Riddle for opening the chamber of secrets. As a result, Hagrid was suspended from Hogwarts.

9) Which actor played Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter movies?

Voldemort was played by Ralph Fiennes from Goblet of Fire on. The role was played in the first movie by actor Richard Bremmer. A teenaged Tom Riddle was played by Christian Coulson in the second movie. In the sixth movie, 11-year old Tom Riddle was played by Hero Fiennes-Tiffin (Hero’s uncle is Raph Fiennes). Frank Dillane also played a 16-year old Tom Riddle in the fifth movie.

10) How many total Horcruxes did Voldemort create (including Harry Potter)?

Voldemort created 7 Horcruxes, which means that his soul was split into 8 pieces. Those Horcruxes include: Tom Riddle’s Diary, Marvolo Gaunt’s ring, Rowena Ravenclaw’s diadem, Helga Hufflepuff’s cup, Salazar Slytherin’s locket, Nagina, and Harry Potter.

Some Additional Voldemort Facts

Here is some additional trivia about him that we couldn’t fit on our quiz but found interesting.

1) During an interview, JK Rowling revealed that Voldemort’s boggart would be a corpse. That is because he feared his own death more than anything else. This makes sense as Voldemort did everything possible to try and cheat death, including creating multiple Horcruxes.

2) On Twitter, JK Rowling revealed that the ‘t’ in Voldemort is silent, which means that it technically should be pronounced ‘Voldemor’. This has caused some criticism from fans because there are book readings from Rowling where she pronounces the ‘t’ in his name.

3) Before Ralph Fiennes was cast as the Dark Lord, there was a rumor that Rowan Atkinson was being considered for the role. This turned out to be false but it is funny to imagine ‘Mr. Bean’ playing the role of the darkest wizard of all time.

4) Voldemort was born on December 31st, 1926. He died at the age of 71 on May 2nd, 1998.

5) Tom Riddle/Voldemort was never married. In Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, it was revealed that Tom had a child with Bellatrix Lestrange, named Delphini. She was born in Malfoy Manor and plays a big role in the Cursed Child play.
